

You can prevent that by launching the launcher.jar file it downloads to the Minecraft data ( %appdata%) folder when you first launch it directly. Using this directly to launch the game will show a message that you should update the launcher. If the old Minecraft.exe launcher is not working for you, you can download the "Linux / Other" variant. Nethertheless, you can report bugs regarding the old and new launcher on the bug tracker (if they are not already reported) to make sure the devs are aware of them. Therefor I wanted to create this post to provide steps to download and use the old launcher. There are sadly some bugs with the new launcher which prevent players from playing. (#spoiler) = neat!
